The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) has been working on finding a new location for Bedford House since October 2005 when we learned that the City of Calgary had expropriated the land to accommodate the Stampede Park planned expansion. We have now secured a permanent location in the industrial neighbourhood of Manchester located at 4502 Builder’s Road SE and we are raising the necessary funds to build it.
We have to be out of our current location by the end of February 2016. For this reason, we must secure a location to temporarily support our Bedford House program. In October 2015, we approached the City of Calgary requesting use of a multi-unit building in the community of Forest Lawn in the interim. This building is located at 2404-50th Street SE.
If granted approval to use this site, we have no plans to change the outside of the building - we are simply seeking approval to use it temporarily until our new location is ready, for a period of three to five years.
We are looking for ways to share our plans with the community and to invite comments and questions. An open dialogue environment is very important to us and we look forward to gaining your trust, as we have in all the neighbourhoods where our facilities exist elsewhere in Calgary.
We have a number of ways that we are reaching out to the community, through:
We are also looking for interested neighbours and community members to be a part of our Good Neighbour Agreement. Please contact Gordon Sand at 403-266-4566 or email at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more or getting involved.
Here are copies of materials we have distributed about this application for a temporary move to 2404 50 Street SE.
We look forward to getting to know our new neighbours and to open dialogue about the many programs and services of the Calgary John Howard Society. Our goal is to reduce crime within the community and to make Calgary a safer place to live. Find out more about our many preventative, youth and adult programs on our website.
